Horse Match Privacy Policy
Who we are and what this covers
Horse Match, LLC ("Horse Match," "we") runs the Horse Match apps for iPhone and Android and the website at horsematch.com, a marketplace for buying, selling and leasing horses. This policy explains what we collect, why, who else handles it, what other members see, and the choices you have. A link another member shares, such as a video hosted on another site, is covered by that site's own policy.
Information you give us
- Account: your name, email address, mobile phone number and password. We keep your password only in scrambled (hashed) form. Your phone number receives verification and password codes by text message.
- Profile (optional): a photo, a short bio, years riding, skill level, and your favorite discipline and breed.
- Listings: horse details (name, breed, age, height, color, temperament, disciplines, price or lease terms), photos, a video, links to videos hosted elsewhere, and the listing's location.
- Messages: what you send other members, stored on our servers so your conversations work across devices.
- Activity: horses you favorite or pass on, your saved search and its location, members you block, listings you report, ratings you give, and sales you record, including the buyer you choose.
Information collected automatically
- Device: a push notification token, a random installation identifier, and your device model and operating system version.
- Location: only if you allow it, to place a listing or center your search. Address lookup is handled by Google Maps. You can type an address instead.
- Advertising ID (Android): shared with Singular, our attribution provider, to learn which link or campaign led to an install. We do not use it to show you ads. On iPhone, we do not ask permission to track you and do not collect the advertising identifier.
- Analytics and crash reports: Google Firebase records which screens you use, some actions such as adding a listing, and crash reports.
- Server logs: each request to our servers, its time, your IP address and the app version, kept for about two weeks.
- Website: the website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people use; it sets cookies you can block in your browser settings.
How we use information
- Run your account: sign-in, verification codes and password resets.
- Show your listings to buyers, and show you horses that match your saved search, nearest first when you share a location.
- Deliver messages between members and send notifications you can turn off.
- Keep the marketplace safe: review reports, apply blocks, limit repeated attempts and investigate misuse.
- Understand and fix the app, and learn which links and campaigns bring new members.
- Meet legal obligations.
What other members see
- Your name, photo, profile details and ratings.
- Your listings, including the location you enter. If you would rather not share your home address, enter your town or area instead.
- Your messages, seen by the member you send them to.
- When a seller records a sale, a search that shows matching members' names and photos.
We do not display your email address or phone number to other members. A shared listing link carries only the listing's identifier.
Who else handles your information
We share information only with providers that run parts of the service for us, and only what each one needs:
- our hosting provider, which runs our servers, database, and photo and video storage;
- our text message provider, which sends verification and password codes;
- Google, for push notifications, analytics, crash reports and maps;
- Singular, for install attribution.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect members or the service, or as part of a sale of the business. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
How long we keep it, and deleting your account
We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your account in the app under Settings. Deleting it removes your profile and contact details, listings, photos and videos, saved search, favorites, ratings and sales records, and replaces the text of messages you sent.
Messages other members sent you remain in their conversations. We keep a minimal record (an account number and dates) to prevent abuse, and keep some records longer when the law requires it. Server logs are kept for about two weeks.
Your choices and rights
- Permissions: location, photos, camera and notifications are each optional and can be changed in your phone's settings.
- Advertising ID: reset or delete it in your phone's settings.
- Your profile and listings: edit or remove them in the app at any time.
- Access and correction: email us to ask for a copy of your information or a correction. We respond within 45 days.
- State privacy rights: depending on where you live, you may have further rights, including appealing a decision we make on your request. Because we do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, there is nothing to opt out of.
Security, children, changes and contact
Security. Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted, passwords are stored hashed, and we limit repeated sign-in and code attempts. No system is perfectly secure; if a problem affects your information, we will tell you where the law requires it.
Children. Horse Match is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes. We will post any update here with a new date. For significant changes, we will also tell you in the app before they take effect.
